Welcome to First Day Films, offering unique wedding films for exceptional couples.
Serving New York City and all surrounding areas.

First Day Films was started with one goal in mind: to tell our clients’ stories as elegantly and unobtrusively as possible. Our films capture the events we cover precisely as they happen. Nothing artificial, nothing “cheesy.”

We have all been to events where the video crew are the most noticeable people in the room. The bright lights, the uncomfortable interview requests. At First Day Films, we believe that distractions like these put you and your guests on the spot. So we do our best to avoid them entirely.

Relax. Enjoy yourself. You won’t know we’re there.

I’m a storyteller, first and foremost, and I started First Day Films because I want to tell your story.

I am obsessed with details – both major and minor. I shoot constantly, looking for those little things that others might miss. I believe that volumes can be spoken with something as simple as a single glance.

I am a huge fan of the cinema, especially the films of Wes Anderson, Ingmar Bergman, and the French New Wave.

I love old soul music, pub trivia, and date night.

When I’m not shooting weddings, I enjoy making short films with my daughter Olivia, and convincing prospective clients that yes, you do want a videographer at your wedding.

“I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how I felt about my sister’s wedding video. I’m Katie’s sister and was her matron of honor. She sent me a link to the video you made for her, and she was so excited for me to see it. I am quite a bit older than my sister and have seen my share of wedding videos, my own included. I knew I would love it as the video was sure to highlight one of my favorite days ever, celebrating two of my favorite people. However, I can assure you that I was not prepared to see what I saw. Wow. I don’t know of a better word to capture what I felt as I watched your interpretation of their special day. The quality of the video and your unmatchable ability to remain largely unnoticed have to be some of the best qualities in a videographer, but they don’t hold a candle to the talent you possess to capture quiet moments and put them together to tell the most beautiful love story. I have watched the video four times in the past few days just because. The music, your timing, the impeccable editing…  they all work together beautifully to create the most touching, elegant, and stunning wedding video I have ever seen. It’s so good that after 11 years of marriage, it makes me want to get married again just to have you make our video! Thank you for providing our family with such a beautiful memory and for sharing with us your very special talent. I, along with my sister and brother in law, remain truly grateful.”

“I cried watching the video more than I did at the actual wedding. It was just perfect.”

“Wow! I am so grateful for your work on our wedding video – or as my niece calls it, the Sarah and Marty movie! You’ve given us an amazing gift, reliving the best day of our lives.”

“John, it is the best wedding video ever as far as I’m concerned! The documentary style is so fantastic, you did the most amazing job. Thank you so much for this gift!”

“Our wedding was everything we could have hoped for, and your video did such a great job of catching all of the events and details that we thought made it so great. Whether it’s reliving our favorite moments from the wedding or noticing something that we both missed, we have watched our video countess times and loved it more each time.”

“Seriously, the evening was very special, but indeed a blur and we can’t thank you enough for capturing it all on video. We kept saying after it was over, ‘thank goodness we had John.’”

“The DVD is a huge hit, and we are so happy with the way it turned out! Everyone who sees it mentions that they didn’t even see a cameraman. We are so happy with it!”

“Ironically, we met John only a few weeks prior to the wedding. We originally thought, have we ever seen a wedding video we really liked? Do we really want a videographer? We have been to weddings in the past where some guy lugging a beta-max circa 1980′s and 1000 watt spot light gets in your face with a microphone and says “Do you have any words for the newlyweds?” We aways found that off putting, and I am sure you can relate. I hate to say this but we were so traumatized by all the videographers we have come across in the past that we figured we should go without. Then I started thinking I would love to show our family and our children this special day in the future, we need to somehow capture this. Photography brings one element to the day. Videography brings a completely different perspective. Then we happened upon John. When we saw a few of his video clips, it really opened our eyes to how great this medium can be for weddings, and how tasteful and artistic this format can really be if the right person is behind the camera. We were truly impressed with John’s talent, style and approach. In speaking with him several times before the wedding, we knew he was top notch, he was formally trained and schooled in the art of film-making and has a mature and polished eye for his craft. This is clearly evident in his quality of work.”

“I have recommended you to everyone we know getting married in the New York area. From your unobtrusive style to the quality video with its steady, sweeping shots, you truly are one person we feel comfortable recommending to anyone.”
